Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a real-time, non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that quickly and accurately locates the position and depth structures in or below concrete slabs such as post-tension cables, rebar, and electrical or fiber optic conduits.
GPR uses high frequency radio waves to inspect the interior of concrete structures and locate buried obstructions prior to drilling, cutting, or coring. This technique can locate targets to a depth of up to 14 inches or more in concrete with an outstanding degree of accuracy, while offering real-time inspection results. GPR is faster, more efficient and more cost-effective than X-ray – the only other NDT technique capable of "seeing” through a structure.
GPR is also effective for locating targets below grade such as utilities.
Unlike X-ray, GPR is safe to operate in highly populated areas such as hospitals and during construction, poses no radiation hazards, does not require any evacuation of personnel, requires only one-sided access and offers continuous data collection for real-time results.
